Description:
This workshop will provide different samples of Trilingual interpreting modes. These modes include: Trilingual Interactive, sight translation and simultaneous and consecutive interpreting. Participants will be given a brief overview of the situation, techniques to use while interpreting in the particular situation and engage in hands-on activities. Feedback will be provided. Participants must be fluent in Spoken English, Spanish and ASL to fully take advantage of the workshop.

Educational Objectives:
• Participants will be able to define the key concepts of a successful Sight Translation.
• Participants will be able to practice sight translations from English to ASL and English to Spanish within time constrains.
• Participants will be able to identify when a DHH consumer requires ASL/sign language with Spanish labial articulation.
• Participants will practice simultaneous interpreting using sign language combined with Spanish labial articulation.
• Participants will define Trilingual Interactive.
• Participants will practice Trilingual Interactive scenarios.

Melva Flores is of Puerto Rican decent, first generation born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She received her B.A. in ASL-English Interpretation from Columbia College Chicago in 2000. Melva has been interpreting for 18 years and holds a Cl and CT National Certification from RID. She is a full time freelance interpreter. She often interprets interactively between her three languages, where she is the only interpreter present and interprets into/from all three languages either consecutively and/or simultaneously. She is currently a staff interpreter for Chicago Hearing Society and a Trilingual Video Interpreter for Sorenson Communications. She is the President of Illinois Mano a Mano. Her passion is to travel, professional development and seeing the Trilingual field grow.

Esteban Amaro, NIC, BEi: Trilingual Advanced, is a native of Chicago and proudly identifies as a COMA (Child of Mexican Adults). He graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in ASL- English Interpretation (2015). Esteban has been awarded with Certificates in Simultaneous Interpretation (2011) from English to Spanish and Spanish to English from the University of Hawai'i at Manca. He works as a freelance interpreter. He currently serves as Secretary for Illinois Mano a Mano and is on the Translation Committee for Mano a Mano. Esteban loves to travel to Mexico and meeting new people.
