Service and Assistance Animals

Service animals are not considered accommodations that students must apply for. Students who have a service animal or service animal in training are not required to register with or provide any documentation to the DRC. However, students with service animals may find it helpful to check in with the DRC for other accommodations or to strategize around their classroom needs. In contrast, students looking to bring an assistance animal (sometimes called an emotional support animal or therapy animal) on campus, including in Campus Housing should register with the DRC using our standard accommodations registration process.

For more information about services and assistance animals on campus, take a look at UIC’s Service and Assistance Animal Policy. For a visual representation, consult the flow chart below, or download a tagged pdf of the Service and Assistance Animal Flowchart.
